Not to be confused with Chaos Frame.

Alignment is a stat in Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen and Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber. It is a representation of a character's personal ethos and personality. It serves as a stat in games, where it helps determine the reactions of characters to each other and to the player's actions. There are generally three possible alignments: Lawful (associated with a high Alignment stat), Chaotic (associated with a low Alignment stat), and Neutral (which falls in between the two extremes).

Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen[]

The alignment of a class or character is used in various situations:

  • Plot events: determined by the Opinion Leader. Depending on the event, either low or high alignment might be needed.
  • Endings: determined by the Opinion Leader. Typically, the higher the alignment, the better the ending.
  • Character recruitment: determined by the Opinion Leader. Depending on the character, either low or high alignment might be needed.
  • Liberation: determined by the average alignment of the unit. Alignment is only one of the variables in a liberation that raises Reputation or Chaos Frame, but is the most important.

Alignment can be raised by:

  • Defeating a character that is of a higher level.
  • Defeating a character that has lower Alignment.
  • Drawing a Priestess card after the liberation of a town or temple.
  • Drawing a Hierophant card after the liberation of a town or temple.
  • Using the item Soul Mirror on a character.

Alignment can be lowered by:

  • Defeating a character that is of a lower level.
  • Defeating a character that has higher Alignment.
  • Drawing a Tower card after the liberation of a town or temple.

Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber[]

The Alignment stat is used to determine if a character is eligible to change to a specific class and to determine if a visited stronghold is liberated or captured. Alignment is measured on a scale of 0 to 100. An Alignment of 0-28 is considered Chaotic, an Alignment of 29-71 is considered Neutral, and an Alignment of 72-100 is considered Lawful.

The numeric Alignment stat is invisible to the player. Instead, Alignment is displayed as a scale graphic on the character stat screen. There are seven different graphics representing different ranges: 0-14 (very Chaotic), 15-28 (Chaotic), 29-42 (Neutral leaning Chaotic), 43-57 (Neutral), 58-71 (Neutral leaning Lawful), 72-85 (Lawful), 86-100 (very Lawful).

Changing Classes[]

Most classes are only available to characters with a specific alignment range. Character Alignment changes over time. A character will never be forced to change class if they fall out of the required Alignment, but they are not required to be eligible to return to a previous class.

Liberating and Capturing Strongholds[]

Every stronghold lists a numeric Morale value in the stronghold details that ranges. The Morale corresponds to the average Alignment of all the characters in a single unit group. If you want to Liberate a stronghold (to pursue a higher Chaos Frame), send a unit group with an average Alignment that is similar to the Morale of the stronghold (e.g. if the stronghold Morale is 30, send a unit group that contains primarily Chaotic Alignment characters).

If you want to Capture a stronghold (to pursue a lower Chaos Frame), send a unit group with an average Alignment that is not similar to of the Morale of the stronghold (e.g. If the stronghold Morale is 30, send a unit group that contains primarily Lawful Alignment characters).

Changing Alignment[]

Alignment can be changed during combat and with items. Characters in unit groups that fight together across many battles will skew toward a similar Alignment (e.g. placing a single Lawful Alignment character in a unit group with 4 Chaotic Alignment characters is likely to dramatically lower the Alignment of the Lawful Alignment character).

Raising Alignment[]

  • Battling enemies of a higher level
  • Battling enemies of a lower Alignment
  • Use the Scroll of Discipline item on a character

Lowering Alignment[]

  • Battling enemies of a lower level
  • Battling enemies of a higher Alignment
  • Use the Urn of Chaos item on a character

Modifying Alignment[]

The alignment of characters in units will drift towards the average for example if you have one character at a neutral alignment and four at lawful then the neutral character’s alignment will increase significantly and the lawful character’s alignments will decrease slightly after every (non-training) battle.

This can be used to spike a character’s alignment to a desired value for example a young dragon in a party of max chaotic characters will quickly become chaotic and make it easier to level into a Black Dragon
