Dievold Obdilord is a playable character in Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. He is a Terror Knight of Galgastan, son of Nybeth and Cassandra, and brother to Oelias, Cressida, and Moldova.

He is recruitable exclusively the to Neutral Route, along with his sister, Oelias. Dievold also has a brief appearance as an enemy leader in the Chaotic Route, leading a group of undead at Qadriga Fortress, as part of the Cressida recruitment sidequest of Chapter 4.

Warren Report[]

If Killed in the Neutral Route[]

A knight with an air of mystery about him. He fought to protect his sister Oelias after they were attacked by undead at Port Asyton, but was slain.

If Recruited/Not Recruited[]

A Galgastani from Brigantys. He is the son of the Necromancer Nybeth and brother to Oelias. When war broke out he was slain for opposing Hierophant Balbatos, but his father later resurrected him though necromancy. However, his new body consists of a patchwork of corpses and he has changed irrevocably.

  • His entry in the Warren Report is the same regardless of whether he was recruited or denied recruitment.

If Dismissed[]

He joined the Resistance to defeat his father Nybeth and put an end to his nefarious experiments. He was later dismissed by Denam.

Background[]

Dievold's backstory and character vary between versions of the game.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (SNES)[]

Dievold was a solider of Galgastan who took part in an insurrection against Balbatos early in the Hierophant's war campaign. He was executed as a result.

Dievold's father, Nybeth Obdilord, then used him as a necromancy experiment. However, Dievold was resurrected in body only, leaving him a mute and mindless puppet. Despite this, he seems to retain some semblance of his former self, such as how he obeys Oelias' voice, and protects her in battle.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)[]

Dievold was a solider of Galgastan who was put to death by Hierophant Balbatos as an example of what would befall those who opposed him.

He was brought back from death by his father, Nybeth Obdilord five days after his execution, however his body was unable to be salvaged and his head was placed on a suitable body for the soul-fetch spell used to bring him back. Though he retains his soul and memories, his body is a haphazard patchwork that is rapidly breaking down.

Recruitment[]

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (SNES)[]

Exclusive to the Neutral Route

Oelias and Dievold will be guests during a battle against a horde of undead at Port Asyton in Chapter 3 Neutral. Keep both of them alive during the mission, and they will ask to join afterwards.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)[]

Exclusive to the Neutral Route

Oelias and Dievold will be guests during a battle against a horde of undead at Port Asyton in Chapter 3 Neutral. If Dievold is kept alive, he will offer to join (even if Oelias was killed).

Overview[]

Dievold is the only unique recruitable Terror Knight in the game. As such, he's a better option than generics, but he still suffers the same drawbacks that dog the class. Namely, he is slow, and his armor options lag behind other knight classes.

His biggest strength is in inflicting status ailments on the frontline, with his access to Dark Magic, Fearful Impact, and Lament of the Dead. With no Gildas available in the Neutral Route, you may still find room for Dievold in your formation.

Even though he is technically undead, he still functions like a human character in gameplay.

Trivia[]

Dismissal Quotes[]

  • "A fine waste of time this has been." - PSP version

Battle Banter[]

Chapter III Neutral - Port Asyton[]

  • If Oelias dies in the battle at Port Asyton: "Oelias! No... Great Father! What have I done?!"
  • If Oelias dies first, followed by Dievold: "The dead drag me ... down. Forgive me, Oelias."

Chapter III Neutral - Ndamsa Fortress[]

After Nybeth's HP drops a certain point:

  • Dievold:"Nybeth... father! You must end this! Your sorcery brings only suffering!"
  • Nybeth:"How can you say such things, Dievold? Is it not thanks to my power that you stand here now?"/"Yes, my techniques are imperfect. I will be the first to admit I have caused discomfort!"/"But when I do perfect them, then we will know true succor from the ravages of death! Is it not worth some pain along the path?"
  • Dievold:"What you do sins against life. It is a twisting of the Great Father's providence."/"It can never be perfect, for by its very nature it is corruption!"
  • Nybeth:"Great Father? Don't chastise me with faerie tales, child. I am the only father you will ever have!"/"You expect me to bend to the will of an imaginary being, when my own purpose lies so clearly before me?"/"We are born only to die. If that is the providence given to us by life, then I reject it!"/"I make my own way through this world. My steely will, my shining intellect - these are light enough for me to follow!"
  • Dievold:"Then I must slay you before you take any more down your twisted path to hell, old man."
  • Nybeth:"Yes, enough of words, deeds bring transformation! Swing your sword as you will!"

Recruitment Dialogue[]

If only Dievold survives (Oelias felled in battle at Port Asyton):

  • Dievold: "I thank you for your help."/"My name is Dievold... Forgive my rasp."
  • Denam: "I am Denam. I fight for the Resistance."/"Please, you must tell me what happened here."
  • Dievold: "That knight who attacked Oelias  - he with the foreign crest upon his armor. He was one of yours?
  • Denam:"Gildas, you mean? Yes, he was a staunch ally."/"I had not see him since the night of the Bakram attack on Rhime."/"The woman who fell in the battle - Oelias, you said? - Who was she?"
  • Dievold:" She was my blood..."
  • Denam: "Then I am sorry we could not save her."
  • Dievold: "Your eyes will tell you what my tongue cannot."
  • Denam:"Ah?!"/ "What... are you? Do you even live?"
  • Dievold: "My bones are knit with magics, not sinew. What's more, though my head is mine, my body is another's."
  • Denam: "What?!"
  • Dievold:"When the warring began after Dorgalua's passing, I was executed - an example to others who would rise againts Balbatos.
  • Denam:"Executed!? How -"
  • Dievold:"You know of the necromancer, Nybeth?"
  • Denam: "Aye, though I wish I did not. The Necromancer of Galgastan, Nybeth Obdilord, is a curse given flesh."
  • Dievold: "Yes, he is a curse. And also my father."
  • Denam: "Your father!"
  • Dievold: "My father Nybeth used a soul-fetching spell to drag me back to the world of the living."
  • Denam:"A soul-fetch...?"
  • Dievold:"Yes, I was returned to this world against my will. A full five days after my departure."/"When I awoke, I found that my body was not my own. My father had affixed my head to another corpse."/"He told me that my old body had suffered damage too great to be of further use"/"But I suspect that was a lie... He merely wanted to see if the transposing would work."/"As if that was not enough, the soul-fetch was incomplete."/"It is a difficult thing to fetch a departed soul and seat it within a mortal shell."/"Though my father's magic did bind me to this body, I know not how long it will endure."
  • Denam:"What happens when the spell wears off?"
  • Dievold: "Death, again."
  • Denam: "... I'm sorry."
  • Dievold:"That outland knight you called your companion ran afoul of my father..."
  • Denam:"No..."
  • Dievold:"I am sad to say that he and I are of a kind, now. No longer truly part of this world."
  • Denam:"No... Damn him!"
  • Dievold: " I would offer my aid in exchange for yours. Nybeth must be stopped."/"To let him live would be to sow the seeds of some future strife."/"... And swell the ranks of his victims, like your friend, and Oelias... and myself."
  • Denam:" Choice I (Very well, you may join us.)
    • Denam:"Join our ranks, march with us."
    • Dievold:"I thank you. What time remains to me shall be yours."
    • Denam:"The woman... Oelias, you called her? She, too, was a victim."
    • Dievold:"That... is a tale for another day."
    • Denam: "Nybeth is out there. Let's be off."
    • Dievold: "I understand he has crossed the straits to the Isle of Banhamuba."
    • Denam:"Then we must make haste."
  • Choice 2: (I'm sorry, but I must refuse you.)
    • Denam:"Though I do not doubt your willingness, I do not think you can help us."
    • Dievold:" I understand. Promise me, then. That you will use caution. Nybeth is mad. But no less dangerous for it. Perhaps more."/"If you would pursue him, cross the straits to the Isle of Banhamuba. Stop him, lest the dead never know rest.
