The Regent Brantyn Morne

Brantyn Morne. Age 49.

A Bakram who once served as Regent to the Bakram-Valerian Kingdom. He was brother to Abuna Prancet, and the uncle of Denam.

Though once a mere abuna of the Order of Philaha, after the King's death he shared his knowledge of Catiua with the Queen to curry favor, and attained the rank of exarch. He then exploited his position to intervene in the power struggle caused by the lack of successor. He consolidated his political power through the support of the noble and wealthy classes. Backed by the military might of Lodis to the north, he established the Bakram-Valerian Kingdom and installed himself as Regent. The kingdom was headed by the hier of House Eltynaha due to their blood ties with Queen Vernotta, but Brantyn ruled from the shadows.

Brantyn was ordered to make peace with the Resistance when Princess Versalia's existence came to light, but he would not relent. He died fighting Resistance forces at Heim Castle.

Personality

From as far back as his pauper abuna days, Brantyn has always been cunning and resourceful, but equally callous and selfish, even selling out his own brother to further his lot. As Regent, he forges alliances to shore up his own position, but he is not keen on sharing power, and constantly clashes with his own allies. His refusal to cede the throne to the emergent Princess Versalia contributes to his downfall.

Even after becoming ruler, Brantyn's lower class manners remain. He is rude, impatient, and demanding to all he deals with.
