— Quass Debonair

Quass Debonair, also known as Debonair of the Wind, is one of the four Devas in Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen, and a recruitable character in Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber. He was demoted and sent to the slums of Xenobia for doubting Empress Endora.

Story[]

Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen[]

History[]

Debonair was one of the four Devas of Empress Endora's Empire. The wielder of the Sonic Blade, he was seen as a paragon of honor and dignity by the people. A man dedicated to the law and honesty, he refused a bribe from a merchant seeking to buy trade rights and had him arrested.

Doubts of Loyalty[]

While he tried to remain loyal to the Empress, he could not help doubting her decisions during the Xenobian Rebellion. For his lack of devotion he was demoted and sent to the slums of Xenobia. There, Ashe, a former captain of the Xenobian Royal Guard battled Debonair, spoke harshly of the world the Empress had created and put further thoughts of doubts in the Devas mind. Debonair knew he could no longer be loyal to a leader he did not know anymore and decided to travel back to Hyland and find out the truth.

High Treason[]

When he tried to persuade the Empress that her recent decisions were misguided, he was charged with treason and sent to a holding cell in Shangrila under the watchful eye of Prince Gares. The prince had planned to drop Shangrila on top of Xenobia Castle, destroying the city and Debonair along with it. However, Gares failed because of the timely arrival of the rebels who defeated him and freed Debonair. There, he was reunited with Norn, his lover, and planned future bride who had joined the rebels. From that moment he dedicated his life to the rebellion.

Unheeded Advice[]

Debonair was never interested in needless bloodshed. As the rebels battled their way across continent he tried to convince his former friends and allies to lay down their arms and join him. Among them were Figaro, his best friend and fellow Deva, who died fighting Debonair for the glory of the Empire. Like his friend, his liege lords Endora and Gares also refused to listen to reason and were killed.

Never Ending War[]

The war with the Empire ended but instead of living peacefully with Norn and getting married, Debonair instead chose to follow Destin, Saradin, Aisha and Gilbald north to stop the invasion of the Holy Lodissian Empire.

Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber[]

Hugo Report[]

A knight who fought alongside Destin, and an excellent swordsman, knight, and leader. After learning of Lodis' control over Palatinus, he joined Magnus, whom he shares the same ideals with.

Recruitment[]

Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen[]

Debonair can be found on the Shangrila stage. To recruit:

  • Defeat the stage boss Gares. In the following dialogue answer "Yes" to recruit Debonair.

Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber[]

Debonair can be recruited in Chapter 3, during the scene No Man's Land (Tremos Mountains), providing:

  • Magnus answered "I can't do it" during Frederick's execution.
  • Saradin and Aisha have been recruited
  • Chaos Frame is medium-to-high.
